Support Gardening the Community!
Gardening The Community is a food justice organization engaged in youth development, urban agriculture and sustainable living to build healthy and equitable communities.
Northeast Solar has been a supporter of GTC and even installed a solar array on their garden store shed at their Walnut Street location in Springfield as part of our solar collaboration with Phippen Adams LLC.
Unfortunately, food deserts are an all too common reality in Springfield and access to healthy food is not guaranteed for many living in the heart of the city. For people without cars or reliable transportation, getting across town to buy produce from a grocery store can be a challenge if not impossible. GTC is an integral part of the food justice community in Springfield and they have done an amazing job of bringing healthy food to the communities who need it most.
GTC’s role in the community is even more important now as we contend with COVID-19. To meet the challenge, GTC is raising money in order to meet the communities food and health needs during this trying time.
You can help!
GTC is trying to raise $30,000 that will be matched by the generous friends of GTC. $60,000 will help them grow food, store it, and deliver it with their bike delivery service. This program will make sure that elders, the sick, and those without transportation receive fresh food that is so vital to good health.
