Families gathered at the Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary on December 22 in Easthampton for the annual winter solstice celebration which featured live music, a short play and a bonfire.
People bundled in warm hats and rain jackets gathered around a blazing fire at 5:30 p.m. The bonfire warmed the night air as rainy afternoon clouds cleared to reveal a bright silver moon overhead.
The fire was lit in celebration of the longest night of the year and the much anticipated lengthening of days to follow.
Families shared hot apple cider and listened to live music after watching a short play that reenacted the mythical origins of the solstice.
Northeast Solar was there to celebrate and was happy to sponsor the festivities that were open to the public, free of charge.
